Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle and Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk signed a new programme to support civil society in Ukraine. The new programme, worth 10 million, is designed to enhance the role of civil society in promoting and monitoring democratic reforms and inclusive socio-economic development in Ukraine.

n 10 September, President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker unveiled his team and the new shape of the next European Commission. The new European Commission will be streamlined to focus on tackling the big political challenges Europe is facing: getting people back to work in decent jobs, triggering more investment, making sure banks lend to the real economy again, creating a connected digital market, a credible foreign policy and ensuring Europe stands on its own feet when it comes to energy security.

German and Dutch companies, so far among the most reluctant to back EU's planned Russia sanctions, are ready to take a hit from possible retaliatory measures. The "Eastern association of German economy" representing firms who are active in Russia is ready to support the sanctions, its chief Eckhard Cordes told Handelsblatt.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the European Union addressed the national strategy for the reform of the technical regulation system of Ukraine at a conference organised on July 23, 2014 in Kyiv. The conference discussed the recently adopted legislation on metrology and standardisation, as well as other measures in place and planned actions to align Ukrainian standards with those functioning in the EU.

We have learned with relief that the remaining 4 monitors of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine have been released yesterday [June 28] in Eastern Ukraine. Friday's European Council Conclusions highlighted the release of hostages including all of the OSCE observers as one of four crucial steps to be undertaken by Monday 30 June.

People have given their lives for the closer link with Europe enshrined in the Association Agreements signed today between the EU and Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said at todays signing ceremony in Brussels.
